e-Learning / Web-Based Training (WBT)

Selecting self-paced web-based training (WBT) modules as the method of training delivery allows a solitary learner to learn at his or her own pace, at a time and schedule that suits. Typically, these training modules are delivered via the Internet, Intranet or Extranet using an Internet browser application. This type of web-based training is self-contained and does not require live interaction with an instructor or other learners.

  • Convenient, flexible and easily accessible for learners
  • Training can be completed at learner’s own pace
  • Interactive, effective and engaging for various learning styles
  • Cost-effective for large and/or geographically dispersed audiences (saves money on travel expenses, instructor costs, facility and equipment costs)
  • Easy to customize, update and manage
  • Provides a consistent and measurable training experience
  • Learners can test understanding and obtain immediate feedback and reinforcement of learning
  • Ability to track learner activity and results – modules accessed, time, test results, etc.

Self-paced WBT is typically selected when:

  • The audience is geographically dispersed
  • Delivery timelines are short
  • Training delivery needs to be consistent and readily available on an ongoing basis
  • Ongoing content changes will be required to maintain currency of the course
  • Resources are limited or not available for classroom training (time, travel, facility, equipment, instructors)
  • Computer and Internet access is available to the learners
